Guitbasso
"Guitbasso" coined by a local musician and often also referred to as the "Basstar" this hybrid instrument is a big feature in the Gillumesh sound. Custom built by Nathan Gillum, it has 4 guitar strings combined with 2 bass strings that allows him to play bass, chords, and lead lines simultaneously. It also helps define the musical arrangements in the groups repertoire as Nathan attempts to pull as much sound from the instrument possible. Combined with Andrew Gillum's uniquely sophisticated textural approach to drumming and percussion, the duo of Gillumesh has limitless musical possibilities. They are able to have expressive dynamic range and control, capable of playing at a soft whisper to a racous fervor within a moments notice.
"Nathan Gillum alone often sounded as 2 to 3 different musicians, working in sync with his brothers poly-rhythmic percussion to create a sound much bigger than expected from the compact duo" -Tim Preston, Daily Independent
